Jim is a registered landscape architect with 35 years experience on a wide range of site design projects. After three decades of running his own studio, Jim joined CLOSE Landscape Architecture+ to manage and direct a large design team for Ramsey Town Center, a 322-acre transit-oriented town center located northwest of Minneapolis. As the master planning slowed, it became apparent that Jim played a crucial role in our office, and he accepted our offer to remain. His design creativity, exceptional drawing skills and sense of humor have served him well with clients and studio mates alike. His award winning installations at the Minnesota Arboretum have been widely recognized for their creative and educational value.
Jim has taught extensively at the College of Architecture and Landscape Architecture over the past 30 years, testament to his wide-ranging skills and love of mentoring. He continues to regularly serve as a guest critic.
Jim and his wife Marilyn recently sold their 100 year old farm house, home for the past 32 years, and moved into a brand new urban loft on the banks of the Mississippi River in Northeast Minneapolis. He calculates that his carbon footprint has declined dramatically because he now often walks to work.
