Minnesota Firefighters Memorial

The Minnesota Firefighters Memorial is currently located in a remote corner of the baggage level at the Minneapolis St. Paul Airport. Seeking a better home for their memorial ceremonies, the firefighters turned to the Capitol grounds. Working with the sculptor of the original bronze, CLOSE Landscape Architecture+ created an outdoor room in the landscape. The new memorial site will accommodate large gatherings for fallen firefighters and provide intimate seating for personal reflection and meditation. The original bronze will be mounted on a black granite plinth in the center of a gracious lawn with a shimmering glass wall as its backdrop. Double allees of honeylocust trees will provide dappled shade for visitors to the memorial. Construction of the project will commence at the completion of the current fundraising campaign.
