Bob had resisted the ongoing urge to become a folk singer, but has been a member of a local group, Carol Jean and the Bluegills, for over 20 years.

Bob is the President and Founding Principal of CLOSE Landscape Architecture+. A licensed landscape architect, Bob has led the growth of the firm from a one-man shop to a studio of fourteen today. Recognized for his strong design and communication skills, Bob has led numerous planning and design projects in the Twin Cities and surrounding five state area. These have included the design of a new residential neighborhood and riverfront park on a Saint Paul superfund site, a recreational marina and greyfield redevelopment in a suburban Saint Paul community, campus plans for the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campuses and several other colleges and universities, and master planning for Ramsey Town Center, an award-winning, transit oriented town center located near Minneapolis.

The former President of the Minnesota Chapter of ASLA, Bob has been a member for over 25 years. He also serves on the Executive and Program Committees of the Minnesota Chapter of the Urban Land Institute (ULI). He taught design studios at the University of Minnesota for nine years and interdisciplinary studios at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design for three. He continues to lecture and teach occasional studios at the University. He recently completed his sixth year as a member of the Livable Communities Advisory Committee, a innovative community planning program of the Metropolitan Council, which oversees regional development in the 15 county area.

Bob lives with his wife Cindy in a recently renovated mid-century modern home in Saint Paul. They have four adult children, two located in the Twin Cities and one each in Ann Arbor and the Seattle area.
